SHARE Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reviewed the implementation progress of the Terminal 4 project at Cairo International Airport during a meeting held on Tuesday at the government headquarters in New Alamein City. The meeting was attended by Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny, Presidential Financial Affairs Adviser Ahmed El-Shazly, Cairo Airport Company Chairperson Magdy Ishak, representatives of engineering consultancy Dar Al-Handasah, and officials from the relevant authorities. Madbouly highlighted the strategic importance of the new terminal, describing it as a landmark project that will transform Egypt’s main international gateway while reflecting the country’s broader development ambitions. He said continued investment in expanding and modernising airport infrastructure is essential to supporting Egypt’s comprehensive development plans, meeting rising demand for air travel, and accommodating the sustained growth of global tourism. During the meeting, El-Hefny reviewed the project’s strategic vision, objectives and implementation status, describing Terminal 4 as one of the flagship national projects aimed at strengthening Cairo International Airport’s position as a regional and global aviation hub. The minister said the new terminal will have an annual capacity of 40 million passengers and forms part of a broader expansion plan that will increase Cairo International Airport’s total annual passenger capacity to approximately 70 million. He added that the expansion is designed to keep pace with projected growth in air traffic, enhance the airport’s ability to accommodate more airlines and passengers, and capitalise on Egypt’s strategic location at the crossroads of Africa, Asia and Europe. El-Hefny said the project represents a strategic investment in the future of Egypt’s civil aviation sector and is expected to enhance the airport’s competitiveness, increase transit traffic, attract more international airlines, and support the growth of tourism, trade and investment. He noted that the project is aligned with Egypt Vision 2030 by reinforcing the country’s position as a regional hub for aviation and logistics services while increasing the civil aviation sector’s contribution to economic growth and sustainable development. According to the minister, Terminal 4 will incorporate the latest international airport design and operational concepts, including artificial intelligence and digital transformation technologies, to create a smart, efficient and sustainable operating system. The project will also place a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability, efficient resource management and enhanced passenger services, in line with international standards.
